Where to Stay in Paris

Behind the Boulevard Saint-Martin

Hotel Providence is at 90 rue René-Boulanger, in the 10th arrondissement, a street behind the theatres of the Boulevard Saint-Martin. Our guide lists it with the Canal Saint-Martin hotels, but it is not on the canal: the hotel sits between République and the Grands Boulevards. Atout France classified it four stars on 22 September 2026, a very recent date, for 18 rooms. The hotel is independent and says it carries the Clé Verte label.

Strasbourg–Saint-Denis, on lines 4, 8 and 9, is 200 m away. Château d’Eau (line 4) and Jacques Bonsergent (line 5) are each six minutes on foot.

Rooms, restaurant and terrace

The hotel says its building dates from 1854, and describes fireplaces, mouldings and herringbone parquet. Seven of the 18 rooms have a balcony, and each has a private bar. The restaurant serves French cooking, with wood-fire grilling, at lunch and dinner; the piano bar stays open until 1 am; room service is listed, along with a 75 m² planted terrace with 50 seats.

Beside the other four-star hotels of the quartier

This list of nine Canal Saint-Martin hotels has six four-stars. Bloom House has 91 rooms with a spa and pool; Les Deux Gares lists a pool, restaurant and bar. Providence is the smallest at 18 rooms, and the only one listing a restaurant, a bar, a garden terrace and air conditioning together. Le Grand Quartier (83 rooms) has a rooftop terrace but lists no air conditioning.

Getting about

Journey times in our data start from the 102 quai de Jemmapes reference point, about 720 metres from the hotel: 25.5 minutes to the Louvre, 25 to Notre-Dame and 41 to the Eiffel Tower, by metro. The UK Foreign Office warns of pickpockets in the metro, on the RER and in major stations, the Gare du Nord among them; the official 2025 figure for the 10th is 91.7 thefts without violence per 1,000 residents, a rate that does not count visitors.
