How we chose these hotels
Our rule is administrative: every hotel on the page has a Paris 75001 postcode in its file. Among the 1st-arrondissement hotels in our database, we took two to five per Atout France category, so that the page covers a budget range from two to five stars, and ranked them by category, five stars first, then by distance to the Louvre. The Louvre’s Wikidata coordinates are the reference, and every distance is a straight line calculated from the hotel’s own coordinates, from 257 m (Louvre Bons Enfants) to 875 m (Hôtel du Continent).

Nine of the sixteen were checked by hand against the hotel’s website: Palais Royal, Cheval Blanc, Meurice, Brighton, Drawing, Orfèvres, Crayon, Continental and Montpensier. The other seven come from automatic reading; for them we state only the category, rooms, address, metro and what the hotel says about itself, attributed. Résidence La Clef Louvre (8 rue de Richelieu, five stars, read by hand) has a file here but Atout France classes it as a tourist residence, not a hotel, so it does not appear in this list of hotels.
No rates are shown, only a price range estimated from the stars. If you also want to see hotels beyond the 1st, the central Paris list takes Châtelet as its centre.
Where the 1st arrondissement suits
The 1st sits on the Right Bank. Rue de Rivoli, rue Saint-Roch and rue de Richelieu are all within 750 m of the Louvre, with Pyramides (lines 7 and 14), Tuileries (line 1) and Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre as stations. Our neighbourhood sheet rates the Louvre-Tuileries area as recommended for first visits, couples and shopping, and as possible for families and nightlife.

Three cautions: the sheet advises against it on a budget; the Japanese authorities cite the Louvre and Tuileries among the places where their nationals suffer the most theft; and the Châtelet-Les Halles interchange concentrates crowds. The sheet adds that cars are restricted in the Paris Centre traffic zone, although taxis and ride-hailing cars may arrive.
Compare with the Opéra area, which has more three-stars, or see which district fits you in the arrondissement comparison.
