Our guides
Where to stay in Paris with family: thirteen areas compared for parks, playgrounds, family rooms and tourist tax for children. Checked October 2026.
A family stay in Paris asks different questions from a couple’s weekend: where the children can run, whether a room sleeps three to five, how far the evening noise reaches, and how heavy the metro is with a pushchair. The data we hold answers some of them well and others not at all, and this page says which. It rates our thirteen areas for families, lists the gardens and playgrounds by arrondissement, and states what we could not verify.
Three areas are marked as recommended for families: the Eiffel Tower area, Bercy and the Latin Quarter. The other ten are possible, and La Défense is not advised. These are deductions from the sources: parks, family rooms checked on hotel sites, noise and transport.

| Area | Arrondissements | Family verdict | What the data says |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eiffel Tower | 7th 15th | Recommended | The Champ-de-Mars (24.3 ha, entirely open), and family rooms at Gustave, Lévêque, The One Alma and SAX |
| Bercy / Gare de Lyon | 12th | Recommended | Parc de Bercy, Bercy Village on foot, the Musée des Arts forains, and hotels with rooms for four and a pool (Pullman) |
| Latin Quarter | 5th | Recommended | The Jardin des Plantes and, on the western edge, the Luxembourg garden are free; family rooms at Les Dames du Panthéon and Hôtel du Brésil; 82 classified hotels, from 1★ to 5★ |
| Louvre / Tuileries | 1st | Possible | The Tuileries garden is free and central, but the hotel stock leans to 4★ and 5★; family rooms checked at the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal, the Brighton and the Montpensier |
| Opéra / Grands Boulevards | 2nd 9th | Possible | Family rooms checked at five hotels, from 2★ to 5★ (La Maison Favart, Panache, Bachaumont, Chopin, La Fantaisie); no source found on green space in the zone |
| Le Marais | 3rd 4th | Possible | Five of our nine Marais hotels list family rooms (Le Grand Mazarin, Pavillon de la Reine, Maison Proust, JoBo, Jeanne d’Arc) |
| Saint-Germain-des-Prés | 6th 7th | Possible | Free entry to the Luxembourg garden; family rooms at Michelet Odéon, Les Marronniers and the Lutetia; 12 of the 166 classified hotels of the 6th and 7th are 1★ or 2★ (Atout France) |
| Montparnasse | 14th 15th | Possible | Family rooms and parking listed by the Pullman (957 rooms) and the Novotel, and a family room at the 2★ Odessa; the Luxembourg garden is free, but no source names a large park in the area itself |
| Champs-Élysées / Golden Triangle | 8th | Possible | 21 municipal gardens (22.8 ha) in the 8th, two 20 m pavements on the avenue, and family rooms in several hotels; 114 of the 154 classified hotels of the 8th are 4★ or 5★ |
| Canal Saint-Martin | 10th | Possible | Quays closed to cars on Sundays and public holidays; family rooms at Le Grand Quartier, Les Deux Gares and Garbo; two big stations nearby, where the British Foreign Office reports pickpockets |
| Bastille / Oberkampf | 11th | Possible | Two 5★ hotels with a pool and family rooms (Maison Bréguet, Boutet); rue de Lappe is described as very well known for its nightlife, and rue Oberkampf has many bars, clubs and concert halls (Wikipedia) |
| Montmartre | 18th | Possible | Family rooms at BOHEM, Marcel Aymé, Monsieur Aristide and 29 Lepic; slopes and stairs complicate pushchairs |
| Pigalle / SoPi | 9th | Possible | Family rooms at Joke, Les Plumes, Les Matins de Paris and Le Ballu on the Lorette and Saint-Georges side; the Japanese foreign ministry warns of touts and overcharging bars in the Pigalle sector |
The first table shows the municipal gardens open to the public in each arrondissement of our areas, with their total area, and the playgrounds mapped in OpenStreetMap on 4 October 2026. The gardens count excludes the State gardens (Luxembourg, Tuileries, Jardin des Plantes, Palais-Royal) and the woods. The playground counts are collaborative and uneven from one arrondissement to the next, so read them as an indication.

| 18th | 47 | 25.7 | 47 |
Of the fifteen arrondissements in the table, the 12th, the 15th and the 7th have the most garden area, and the 15th and the 12th the most mapped playgrounds. The centre is thin: the 2nd arrondissement has 0.4 ha of municipal gardens. The free Tuileries garden, the Luxembourg garden (free entry) and the Champ-de-Mars (24.3 ha, entirely open) are the large open spaces named in our data.
The number of rooms for three to five people is not published in the Atout France register, so it cannot be compared across hotels: check hotel by hotel. In our checks, the hotels named in the table above showed family or quadruple categories on their own sites. The Pullman Paris Centre-Bercy offers rooms for four and a pool, and the Hôtel Montpensier lists quadruple rooms. A larger party must also think about the taxi: the flat fares from the airports carry a €5.50 supplement from the fifth passenger.

The Paris tourist tax is charged per adult and per night, and minors do not pay it. The 2026 scale runs from €2.60 for a 1★ to €15.93 for a Palace, so a family of two adults and two children pays the tax for two. We do not publish room prices, and we found no verified fare data for children on public transport, so we say nothing about those.
Montmartre is the area where the terrain decides: 222 steps on rue Foyatier, a 36 m climb for the funicular and an Abbesses station 36 m below ground, reached by 176 steps or by lifts. The Canal Saint-Martin quays are closed to cars on Sundays and public holidays, from 10 am to 8 pm between April and September and from 10 am to 6 pm between October and March, according to Wikipedia. We have not verified lift access in metro stations, so check the stations of your route.
For a first visit with children, where to stay in Paris for the first time gives the travel times to the three main sights. For a tighter budget, places to stay on a budget lists the areas with the most 1★ and 2★ hotels. The home page carries the nine hotels of each area.
