The centre of this list is place Pigalle. Every classified hotel of Paris within 600 m of it in a straight line was considered, and the distances are computed from the coordinates of each address: from Bus Palladium Hôtel Club at 222 m to Hôtel Le Ballu at 578 m. Hotels read by hand on their own sites come first: fifteen of them lie within the ring, and all fifteen are here. They are ordered by stars, then by distance: four five-star, five four-star, four three-star and two two-star hotels.
The rule would then complete the list to twenty with the nearest hotels read by machine only, from four stars down to one. Four of them have no fiche in our database (Hôtel Le Pigalle, Villa Royale, Sonder Le Frochot and Léon), and Hôtel Amour (one star, 307 m) has a fiche limited to category, rooms, address and stations. We leave them out rather than describe them unread. Twelve other machine-read fiches fall inside the ring and are left out for the same reason. Terrass Hôtel, four stars and read by hand, stands at 601 m, just outside it.
We quote no rates. Equipment is stated only for the hotels we read by hand.
Where they sit
Pigalle is a micro-quarter around the place Pigalle, on both sides of the boulevards de Clichy and de Rochechouart, across the 9th and 18th arrondissements. The part below the hill, in the 9th, between rue des Martyrs, rue Frochot and rue Clauzel, is sometimes marketed as SoPi, for South Pigalle; the term is used by hotels, and no official source fixes its limits. Of the fifteen, eight are in the 9th and seven in the 18th. The stations nearest to each hotel are these:
Anvers (line 2): nearest stop of Hôtel du Square d’Anvers (Pigalle list).
Funiculaire Montmartre Station Basse (Funiculaire): nearest stop of Mom’Art Hôtel Paris (Pigalle list).
The hotels of the list are served by lines 2, 12 and 13 and the Montmartre funicular; line 7 (Cadet, Poissonnière) runs further south-east. There is no RER station: Charles de Gaulle needs a change at Gare du Nord, and Orly one at Saint-Lazare for line 14.
Which part for whom
Couples: four five-star houses of 10 to 35 rooms (Manolita, Maison Souquet, Le Ballu and Bus Palladium), two of them with a pool. Monsieur Aristide titles its rooms page “romantic hotel”, and Regyn’s lists a Deluxe room with a “romantic view” of the Sacré-Cœur.
Nightlife: cabarets, concert halls and the bars of rue des Martyrs, rue Frochot and rue Jean-Baptiste-Pigalle. Wikipedia says the neon and the cabarets are for many today a backdrop for tourists.
Families: rooms for four are listed by Les Matins de Paris, Le Ballu, HOY, Joke (two rooms linked by an airlock), 29 Lepic, Monsieur Aristide (communicating rooms) and Marcel Aymé (apartments for four and six). The Japanese foreign ministry singles out the area around place Pigalle itself for touts and overcharging bars.
A smaller budget: two two-star hotels are in the list, Regyn’s (22 rooms) and Square d’Anvers (28). The register counts 88 classified hotels in the quartiers Saint-Georges and Rochechouart: 42 three-star and 34 four-star, but only seven two-star and two one-star.
Culture by day: the Musée de la Vie romantique is free for its collections and open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm; the Musée Gustave Moreau opens daily except Tuesday.
Median journey times by metro in our data, from place Pigalle and with the walk to the station included, are 19.5 minutes to the Louvre, 26 to Notre-Dame and 34 to the Eiffel Tower, outside disruption.
It depends on the metro line you need. Bus Palladium, HOY and Villa Bohème are nearest Pigalle (lines 2 and 12); Manolita, Maison Souquet, Joke and 29 Lepic are nearest Blanche (line 2); Hôtel Les Matins de Paris, on rue Clauzel, is two minutes from Saint-Georges (line 12). The Japanese foreign ministry singles out the area around place Pigalle and the boulevards for touts and bars that overcharge, which the safety answer below details.
Is Pigalle safe at night?
There is no official figure for Pigalle alone: SSMSI statistics stop at the arrondissement, and Pigalle straddles the 9th and the 18th. In 2025 they record 5,078 thefts without violence against persons in the 9th (88.7 per 1,000 residents) and 9,342 in the 18th (51.0 per 1,000), rates that do not count visitors. The Japanese foreign ministry (22 May 2026) describes the Pigalle area as a high-crime pleasure district, with touts and bars that overcharge, and advises checking a venue before entering. The British authorities warn about drugged drinks in bars: buy your own and keep them in sight.
What does SoPi mean?
South Pigalle, a trade name for the lower slopes on the 9th-arrondissement side, around rue des Martyrs. Hotels of the area use it (Les Matins de Paris, Villa Bohème, which titles its site “SOPI Hôtel”), but no official or encyclopaedic source defines it.
Is Pigalle close to Montmartre?
Yes: the foot of the hill is the boulevard de Clichy, and the Sacré-Cœur is reachable on foot. Hotels on the hill itself are in our list of [Montmartre hotels](/montmartre-hotels/).
Does Pigalle have a five-star hotel with a pool?
Two of the four five-star hotels have one, according to their own sites: Maison Souquet (a 10 m basin) and Hôtel Le Ballu (a heated indoor pool of 8 m by 2 m). Bus Palladium Hôtel Club lists a restaurant and a bar, and Manolita Paris a bar. Among the four-star hotels, Les Matins de Paris has a basement pool and hammam, at an extra charge.
