How we chose these hotels
Our rule is administrative: every hotel on the page has a Paris 75009 postcode in its file. The Palais Garnier, at its Wikidata coordinates, is the reference point, since the 9th arrondissement stretches from the Opéra to the foot of Montmartre; each distance is a straight line from the hotel’s own coordinates, from 785 m (Chopin) to 1,496 m (Square d’Anvers). Our base holds 38 hotels with a 75009 postcode. Fourteen were read by hand: two of them (InterContinental and Monsieur Helder) are in the Opéra list, and the other twelve are all here. We added two read by machine only, one five-star and one two-star, to reach fourteen: Parister and Antin Saint-Georges. The 16 other machine-read hotels of the 9th that are not in the Opéra list are not shown, among them France Albion, a two-star 773 m from the Palais Garnier, closer than Antin Saint-Georges and Chopin. That makes one to five hotels per Atout France category, ranked by category, five stars first, then by distance.

The 9th’s Opéra-side hotels (eight in all, among them InterContinental, Sofitel Le Scribe and Monsieur Helder) already appear in the Opéra list and are not repeated here. Twelve of the fourteen were checked by hand against the hotel’s website; the other two (Parister and Antin Saint-Georges) come from automatic reading, so we state only category, rooms, address and metro. No rates are shown.
Which side of the 9th
The ninth is two neighbourhoods in our data. The Opéra and Grands Boulevards side, where La Fantaisie, Parister, Panache, Chopin and Antin Saint-Georges stand, is a transport junction with RER A and E and metro lines 3, 7, 8 and 9, and has the covered passages. The Pigalle and South Pigalle side, where most of the others are, has four metro lines (2, 7, 12, 13), cabarets and concert halls, and the bars of rue des Martyrs and of the Frochot and Jean-Baptiste-Pigalle streets.

The Pigalle sheet lists three five-star hotels of character, two with a pool, and 88 classified hotels in all. Its drawbacks: noise at night around place Pigalle and the boulevards, no Sunday-opening tourist zone, and no RER, so airports need a change. For the neighbourhood as a whole, see the Pigalle list; for the district to the north, see the Montmartre list.
