How we chose and ranked them
The centre of this list is place du Tertre, the square of the painters at the top of the hill. We took every classified hotel of Paris within 600 m of it in a straight line, measured from the coordinates of each address: the nearest, Timhotel Montmartre, is 240 m away and the farthest, Hôtel HOY Paris, 600 m. The selection took the hotels read by hand first, then rotated through the categories from five stars to one, the closest first in each, up to twenty candidates. Sixteen of the twenty have a file, all described: 10 were read by hand on their own websites and come first, ordered by stars and then by distance; the other 6 follow in the same order. Four candidates have no file (Audran, Luxia, Bonséjour Montmartre and Juliette) and cannot be described. Two more hotels of the circle with a file, Hôtel Avenir Montmartre (520 m) and Hôtel Be You Apart-Hôtel (596 m), fall outside the twenty. The order is this rule, not a verdict on quality, and we quote no rates.

For hotels read automatically from their own sites, we state only what the Atout France register and our checks confirm: category, number of rooms, address, stations and the sourced facts of their record. Their equipment is left out because we did not confirm it.
Six hotels carry the word Montmartre in their own name: Hôtel des Arts Montmartre, Timhotel Montmartre, Hôtel Regyn’s Montmartre, Élysée Montmartre Hotel, Hôtel Korner Montmartre and Hôtel Bellevue Montmartre. They are ranked like the others, by the rule above, and are not our answer to the query.
Where they sit on the hill
Montmartre has no official boundary. The usual limits, given by Wikipedia, are rue Custine to the north, rue Caulaincourt to the west, the boulevards de Clichy and de Rochechouart to the south and rue de Clignancourt to the east. The sixteen hotels group around the following metro stops, with the funicular as another way up:

Which part of Montmartre for whom
- Couples: our data rates the hill as a good fit, with hotels of character and rooms facing the Eiffel Tower or the Sacré-Cœur at some of them, according to their own sites.
- A smaller budget: 33 of the 51 classified hotels in the two administrative quarters covering the hill have between one and three stars (Atout France export of 4 October 2026).
- First visit: possible, but the hill is in the north. Median metro times in our data, from place du Tertre, are 25 minutes to the Louvre, 30.5 to Notre-Dame and 38 to the Eiffel Tower, outside disruption; from place des Abbesses they are 22.5, 27.5 and 36.
- Families: several hotels have family rooms, but the slopes, the stairs and the crowds around the Sacré-Cœur make strollers hard to push.
- Nightlife: the evening scene is at the foot of the hill, around Pigalle; see our list of Pigalle hotels. The top of the hill is mostly visitors in the evening.
- Luxury: the 18th arrondissement has one five-star hotel in the register, Manolita Paris, with ten rooms at the foot of the hill, listed with the Pigalle hotels.
Shops in the Montmartre tourist zone (rue des Abbesses, the lower rue Lepic, rue de Steinkerque, rue Seveste, place du Tertre) may open on Sundays.
