How we chose these twelve
The rule is the one a reader would expect from a “luxury” query: five-star hotels first. The Atout France register, which we read on 4 October 2026, is our only source for the category and its date. Our files give six five-star hotels in the 6th arrondissement. Six is below the dozen we need for a useful comparison, so we added six four-stars, always shown as four stars: the two read by hand, then the four whose nearest station is closest in a straight line (Artus, Saint-Grégoire, Madison and Grands Voyageurs, all within 75 m, where the next four-star is at 103 m). Within the page, stars come first, in descending order.

For the walking times, we use the nearest metro or RER station in each file, with a straight-line distance multiplied by 1.3 and walked at 80 m a minute. As a check on the data, we calculated two distances from the coordinates: Hôtel Villa-des-Prés and Hôtel Artus are 29 m apart on rue de Buci, and Hôtel des Grands Voyageurs and Hôtel Le Saint-Grégoire are 41 m apart around Saint-Placide.
Eight of the twelve files were built from the hotel’s own website by automatic reading, with the amenities treated cautiously: we report what the hotel says, attributed to it, and nothing about facilities where the file is silent. We show no rates. Hotel prices change daily, so the page gives only the price range implied by the star rating.
Where the hotels are
The twelve fall into four small areas.

- Around Mabillon and rue de Buci: Villa-des-Prés, Artus, Esprit Saint-Germain and La Villa Saint-Germain-des-Prés, each one to five minutes from Mabillon (line 10).
- Saint-Germain-des-Prés proper: Bel Ami, Madison and L’Hôtel, on line 4, with L’Hôtel five minutes from its nearest station.
- Saint-Sulpice: Hôtel de l’Abbaye and Hôtel Récamier, around the church and its square.
- The south and west of the arrondissement: Mandarin Oriental Lutetia at Sèvres-Babylone, and Grands Voyageurs and Saint-Grégoire near Saint-Placide.
The arrondissement as a whole, including less expensive hotels, is covered in the 6th arrondissement hotel list; the neighbourhood approach is in the Saint-Germain guide. For palaces and five-stars across the 7th, see the 7th arrondissement list.

Which part of the 6th for whom
For a famous address: Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, for the Palace distinction and the listed building, or L’Hôtel, for its history with Oscar Wilde and its 20 rooms.
For the café streets: Madison, facing the Deux Magots, or Bel Ami on rue Saint-Benoît, both within two minutes of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
For a garden or a square: Hôtel de l’Abbaye, whose rooms look onto a garden or a courtyard, or Hôtel Récamier, whose Deluxe and Club rooms face place Saint-Sulpice.
For the larger room count: Mandarin Oriental Lutetia (184 rooms), Grands Voyageurs (138) and Bel Ami (102) have the most rooms; Saint-Grégoire (20) and L’Hôtel (20) the fewest.
