A townhouse off the avenue

The Hôtel Lancaster is at 7 rue de Berri, about a hundred metres from the avenue des Champs-Élysées, in the Faubourg-du-Roule district of the 8th arrondissement. Our guide puts it in the Champs-Élysées quartier.

The building is a townhouse of 1889 that a Swiss hotelier turned into a luxury hotel in 1925, according to the hotel’s history page. Studio Jean-Philippe Nuel renovated it in 2020. Atout France, the French classification body, has rated it five stars since 31 January 2022. It lists 54 rooms, which the hotel itself splits into 44 rooms and 10 suites, and no group or chain appears.

Rooms, spa and table

The room with the most detail on the hotel’s site is the Marlene Dietrich suite, 80 m². The hotel says the actress lived there for three years and that the piano bought for her is still in place. Superior rooms can communicate with a neighbouring room, which gives families some flexibility, and the hotel states that it has accessible rooms and welcomes animals. Air conditioning is mentioned only for the Marlene Dietrich suite.

The private spa has a hammam, a jacuzzi, a terrace and two treatment tables, and there is a fitness room and a patio. The restaurant is called Monsieur Lancaster and the bar CopperBay Lancaster. Room service runs around the clock and the hotel has a valet service. No pool is listed.

Getting around

George V, on line 1, is 300 metres away, four minutes. Saint-Philippe du Roule (line 9) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1 and 9) are each 600 metres, eight minutes. From it, the Louvre takes a median 20 minutes by metro (line 1) and Notre-Dame 26.5 by metro and RER C, while the Eiffel Tower is a direct 1,551 m walk of 19 minutes. These are theoretical times, outside disruption.

Against its neighbours

Three of the nine hotels in this list have five stars. Fouquet’s Paris, 210 metres away, has 101 rooms and lists a pool, a spa and a rooftop terrace; the Hôtel de Crillon, 1.4 km away, has 124 rooms and a pool. At 54 rooms the Lancaster is the smallest of the three, and the one without a pool.
