Facing the Louvre from the 7th

Hôtel du Quai Voltaire stands at 19 quai Voltaire, on the Seine side of the 7th arrondissement. In our guide it belongs to the Saint-Germain-des-Prés hotels, and the quai is cited in full in the Saint-Germain tourist-zone order. Atout France classified it four stars on 16 May 2025, with 30 rooms; the hotel’s history page presents it as run by a family.

The closest station is Musée d’Orsay on RER C, 500 m away, six minutes. Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre (lines 1 and 7) and Rue du Bac (line 12) are both nine minutes on foot.

Rooms and the Café des Muses

Most rooms look onto the Seine, and the hotel sells “Seine view” categories from the first to the fifth floor. It lists cooling and heating in every category, a dining room called the Café des Muses and a team on duty around the clock. A fifth-floor room communicates with the Duplex Baudelaire, whose mezzanine is reached by a staircase.

What the hotel says about its past

The hotel says Baudelaire completed Les Fleurs du mal here between 1856 and 1858, in room 51, and that Wagner wrote the libretto of Die Meistersinger in 1861. It adds that Oscar Wilde, Pissarro, Rilke and Sibelius stayed. These stories come from the hotel alone, so we give them as its account.

Beside its Saint-Germain rivals

Three four-star houses share this quartier in our list. L’Abbaye has 43 rooms with a garden; Récamier has 24 with a bar and family rooms. Quai Voltaire, at 30 rooms, lists a restaurant and air conditioning but no garden. From place Saint-Germain-des-Prés, our reference point for the quartier, the median is 13 minutes on foot to the Louvre and 11.5 by metro to Notre-Dame. The hotel itself says the Louvre is seven minutes away on foot. See the hotels of the 7th arrondissement for the rest of the district.
